What is a breed mentor?

A good breeder should be open about their dogs and breeding.

1) KNOWLEDGE - a good mentor should possess sound canine and breed knowledge.

2) EDUCATION - someone who is always willing to learn new things.

3) DIPLOMACY - Understand that all dogs possess merit and it's easy to fault judge.

4) ENCOURAGE - To attend shows, offer assistance, educate about protocol, procedure and answer any questions about showing, shows, and the breed.

5) SPORTSMANSHIP - critisizing other's dogs is not mentoring, it's poor sportsmanship and teaches nothing.



What does a mentor NOT do?

1) SELF-PROMOTE - a mentor does not need to sell you one of their dogs. It does not matter where you got your dog.

2) DISCOURAGE - the word 'never' has no place in mentoring. What you never know is what will happen any day with any dog.

3) CRITISIZE - they do not evaluate a dog they have not researched and do not critisize you or your dogs.

4) BULLY - they should not be in your back pocket - you can make your own decisions - they are not the breed police and have no hold over you.
